Today's fixtures

Three in. A baker's dozen - or 13, in plain-speaking numbers - to go. Belgium and the Netherlands have joined Italy in the last-16, completing the first trio of knockout stage contenders at Euro 2020, to complete what has been another cracking day of tournament football. The Red Devils were made to work by Denmark in Group B for their win though, while the Oranje top Group C with a cruise-control display against a toothless Austria, assured of their progression after Ukraine got the better of North Macedonia. The losers will have to wait to fight for their fate another day - but next up, England expects as they reignite an old rivalry with Scotland, and Croatia look to get off the mark against the Czech Republic in Group D, a double main course prefaced with a Friday afternoon&nbsp;aperitif of Sweden against Slovakia in Group E. With the Netherlands' win tonight, we can officially say farewell to North Macedonia at Euro 2020. The tournament first-timers will not be able to reach the knockout stages here, owing to the fact that even if they were to deliver a major shock and defeat the Oranje, they would hold an inferior head-to-head record with both Austria and Ukraine following defeat against them. They've been spirited in their debut, but they will officially bow out after their final game in Amsterdam next week.

Denzel Dumfries is on cloud nine after another match-winning goal, and when asked by NOS he is living his childhood dream, the wing-back was all too happy to concur. "It's starting to look like that," he says.&nbsp;"You know what we're going for, we grow in it and it feels good. "Donyell [Malen] was very sharp, it was a good ball from Memphis [Depay],&nbsp;and I only had to tap in."

Frank de Boer has been talking to NOS after booking his place in the last-16, and the former Ajax man believes he has seen an improved turn from his side - while warning that they must not get ahead of themselves too soon. David Alaba's coach has a less glowing view of his side's defeat, offering up a brusque, damning&nbsp;account of their efforts in Amsterdam. "We gave the ball away too easily in the first half," he says.&nbsp;"We invited the Netherlands to hit us on the break too often. We got into the final third a few times but didn't get our crosses in. "We didn't create enough chances. Either we didn't cross or we didn't shoot. We weren't determined enough, we lacked purpose. It wasn't enough going forward."

Austria captain David Alaba and team-mate&nbsp;Andreas Ulmer have been speaking after that defeat - and both feel that they have plenty to take heart from, though the former is wounded by his spot-kick concession early on. "I am proud of the team," the former says. "We showed courage. We didn't play as we well in the final third as we would have liked. I take responsibility for the penalty. That really hurts." The latter remains positive too, adding:&nbsp;"All is not lost yet. We still have one more game. Mistakes happen, but we still showed that we want to play forward. Today it didn't quite work. But I don't think we need to hide after that."

Oranje train keeps a-rollin'

Former Oranje man Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has been covering tonight's final game with BBC Sport, and he feels that Frank de Boer's side aren't snatching at opportunities when they present themselves - something that may well come back to bite them. "It was comfortable," he's said.&nbsp;"The Netherlands weren't really pushed all the way. They were solid and created a lot in the first half. "What worries me, because you need to be critical, is that they need to be clinical. You need to take your chances."

Group C clash produces big age gap

No collapse this time around - though whether Austria were intelligent enough to force one is another matter left to better minds - but one question for the Netherlands after those two games is how close they are to their ceiling. Six points is not to be sniffed at, but how much more does this Dutch team have to give? We may not know until the last-16. It is undoubtedly a good performance from them in Amsterdam - but a great one? That is a subject for debate.

Are Netherlands genuine contenders?

Was there an element of acceptance to that Austria performance? They offered so little that, perversely, it has raised questions over whether their hosts were at their best too. The Netherlands undoubtedly ran a tighter ship than they did against Ukraine, but Frank de Boer's critics - particularly when comparing his side to Italy and Belgium, already in the last-16 too - will have plenty to say.

Memphis Depay's penalty and a well-worked goal for Denzel Dumfries saw the Oranje cruise for long periods, not as sharply tested as they could have been at&nbsp;Johan Cruyff Arena on a comfortable evening. Austria remain firmly in the hunt despite defeat - and more to be point, destiny remains in their own hands to avoid that third-place ranking battle.&nbsp;Franco Foda has some work to do if he wants to assure his side's progression

We're into the start of injury time, and Austria do look to be out of ideas now. They're going to have to hope for a good result with Ukraine next week to seal an automatic berth. It really will be winner-takes-all in that Group C finale. The Netherlands are moments away from the last-16.

Four added minutes incoming

The Netherlands have scored 2+ goals in each of their last nine matches in all competitions, their longest run of doing so since May 1935. This hasn't been the dramatic festival their Ukraine clash descended into late on, but they will take this result with much satisfaction tonight, even if questions remain. Georginio Wijnaldum has been superb in attack and defence though.

Karim Onisiwo with the header! He's not been on that long but the substitute almost makes an instant impact, latching onto a greap looping ball, beating out the last defender and planting a fine header. It's too close to&nbsp;Stekelenburg though and he will regret that. His arrival is part of a raft of new faces to enter over the last few minutes;&nbsp;Luuk de Jong is on, as is&nbsp;Philipp Lienhart, and&nbsp;Valentino Lazaro appears to have popped up too.

Where has David Alaba been all night when he could have been doing this?! The shift to a back four seems to have freed up the Austrian skipper - responsible for that penalty, remember, in the first half - to have a shot at redemption. His effort, launched from outside the box, is very close to the right post, skimming around the far side of it. That's not too far off the mark at all.

Austria mount a spell of pressure around the Netherlands box without finding that final pass, and then&nbsp;Wijnaldum pushes them back into their own half. The visitors look to have shifted to a back four for thse final stages.

My word,&nbsp;Maarten Stekelenburg got a little lucky there. An Austria push results in a corner and the in-swinging effort takes a glance off an Oranje defender in the huddle before trickling wide at the right post, by an inch or so. The Netherlands clear their lines on the next set-piece far more smoothly. Teenager&nbsp;Ryan Gravenberch meanwhile is on to join the fray.&nbsp;

They will be now! Denzel Dumfries has made it two goals in two Euro 2020 games and it is a lovely textbook exploitation of Austria's defence to possibly settle this game.&nbsp;Donyell Malen, barely on, races forward, draws across the defender and squares it for the wing-back to smuggle home. Daniel Bachmann thinks it is offside and races away to remonstrate. It's not - and he gets a booking for his protests.

Donyell Malen,&nbsp;Owen Wijndal and Nathan Ake are all on as Frank de Boer makes a slate of changes. Weghorst, Blind and&nbsp;Patrick van Aanholt are among those who leave. Is this conservation from the hosts? Are they confident enough with their lead?

A Netherlands corner conceded by Stefan Lainer falls to&nbsp;Stefan de Vrij whose header looks destined to go in at the left post, before the keeper palms it away.&nbsp;Matthijs de Ligt and&nbsp;Marten de Roon miss with follow-up efforts. Florian Grillitsch and&nbsp;Sasa Kalajdzic are both on for the visitors, before Wout Weghorst cracks an attempt wide. That was a proper flurry of chances for the Netherlands

The Netherlands are settled into cruise control right now, even as Austria keep pushing down the middle. There is still not a shot on target today for the visitors. Their hopes of finding something from this game are slipping away by the minute, even with so long on the clock and just a goal to find. It has been a long night for their fans.

If there is a silver lining for the Netherlands, it is that Austria's increased thrust has not presented any golden chance yet - and a lot of that is down to&nbsp;Georginio Wijnaldum. The Paris Saint-Germain new boy is dropping deep to help cut off attacks before they can truly interfere with the hosts. Liverpool are going to miss him next year, that is for certain.

First-half goal gulf laid bare

There hasn't been much of a workout for the Dutch defensive line today but they are getting a little more involved now. Matthijs de Ligt and Daley Blind are starting to see some action, particularly in the Netherlands' own rear third as Switzerland push some intelligent balls their way. Can Austria keep that up for the rest of this game?

Dutch defence pushed into action

Whatever&nbsp;Franco Foda did during the interval with his teamtalk, it appears to have had an effect on his side, who have come out swinging. Marcel Sabitzer is giving them some much-needed thrust through the middle. If they can convert that into bite, then they may cause some trouble for their hosts. Like the&nbsp;debonair Feathers McGraw of The Wrong Trousers fame, they might be about to reveal that they're a fiendish beast beneath that stolid exterior.

Austria show some gumption

We've resumed action in Amsterdam and the Netherlands are 45 minutes or so away from booking their place in the last-16 of Euro 2020. They'll have to withstand whatever Austria can throw at them - and on the basis of the first half, it may not be much - until then however. A second goal would go a long way to settling their nerves.

Rack 'em up

It's that man again, Memphis Depay, who is getting the job done for the Netherlands from the spot. To say that they are on course to become only the third side in Euro 2020 to win two games so far, Frank de Boer's men don't offer the air of contenders that Italy and Belgium have conjured up. Their late slip against Ukraine certainly didn't help matters, and they'll have to give a good account of themselves in this second half to disabuse those notions.

Repeat customer

It is the Netherlands who lead on home turf in Group C at the break thanks to Memphis Depay's cool penalty conversion - but the Oranje may wonder if they should be out of sight by now. Just the one other shot on target tells them that there is still work to be done, even if Austria seem pretty short of ideas to find a response. As long as this remains in the balance though, it could become a hairy night in Amsterdam.

Block out the noise

Memphis Depay might be having nightmares about that miss if Austria somehow get a result out of this game. A brilliant ball is floated deep into the right edge of the box and falls brilliantly for Wout Weghorst. Many strikers would look to land a dream volley there, but he is unselfish and instead tips a square delivery out for his strike partner. Depay responds his favour by hitting the roof of the first seating tier rather than the roof of the net. Frank de Boer looks like he might cry after that sitter.

Depay wastes superb chance

Though they have met plenty of times down the years, this is only the second tournament meeting between these two. They met in the second group phase of the Argentina 1978 World Cup. The Netherlands won 5-1 on their way to that year’s final, where they were defeated by the hosts. On the basis of this first half, we won't be getting a six-goal thriller. Then again, with the Netherlands, you never can tell.

Further clarity on that stat about what happens when the Netherlands score first; before today,&nbsp;they have won each of their last 21 internationals across all competitions when scoring the opening goal, netting 66 times and conceding only seven times in those victories. That is a staggering run and one they don't seem likely to relinquish tonight. The crowd has picked up in volume a little bit more but there's been few sniffs at a second in recent minutes.

At last! Something for Austria to write home about - which, to say, isn't much. Christoph Baumgartner sees a half-chance blocked, but it nevertheless shows that they have the chance to find some gaps on occasion. They are missing the thrust of Marko Arnautovic, perhaps, with the latter banned after his goal celebration insult against North Macedonia.

That lack of noise might be indicative of the drop in tempo as we reach the halfway mark of the first half.&nbsp; The Netherlands haven't really threatened too much since - though Depay does now find the side netting with a bit of speculative work. Austria are looking a little bit slow. A charitable reading is that they are biding their time.

Can't dampen Depay's flames

The Netherlands have a very good recent track record of holding onto wins when they've scored first. While Belgium became the first side to seal a comeback win at Euro 2020 earlier, Austria will face a fight to become the second. Marten de Roon has been shown a yellow for a bad foul in the last few minutes, shortly after Depay saw a half-chance blocked by some stocky defence. The crowd noise has dropped off a little in Amsterdam. It's early - very early - to tempt fate, but the hosts may already have a foot in the last-16 here.

Business as usual?

Cool as you like from Memphis Depay - but that looked to be closer than the forward would have liked! He drills it into the bottom-left corner.&nbsp;Daniel Bachmann reads it well and goes the right way, but can't get a glove to it in time. It's a showman's celebration from Depay. That could well be the goal to kick us up a notch in Amsterdam. Alaba has meanwhile been booked for that foul. Can Austria rally from their rough start?

It's a straightforward decision in the end and Denzel Dumfries has won a penalty for the Netherlands inside the first quarter-hour here. Euro 2020's record with spot-kicks has been less hits and more misses so far. What can Memphis Depay do here with it?

Stefan de Vrij makes a very lively dart into the box and goes down - with little contact. He possibly gives himself away, but as he recovers, Denzel Dumfries is then stepped on by David Alaba on the edge of the box. This could well be a penalty. VAR will have a look.

Do Netherlands have a penalty?

The last seven matches between the Netherlands and Austria have produced 30 goals, an average of 4.3 per game. That's no mean feat, so history suggests we should be in for a high-scoring affair. The hosts' late drop-off against Ukraine certainly suggests they could let it go again, but Frank de Boer has vowed it will not happen again.

Whereas Denmark shot out of the gates so fast against Belgium, they left flaming tracks a la Back to the Future in their wake, this has been a little more low-key. Denzel Dumfries looks lively though, holding up play and then darting across to cut off a potential Austria attack just inside his box.

When Kevin De Bruyne struck home for Belgium with the eventual matchwinner, his celebration was mutedly respectful to say the least. He has, understandably, revealed that it was toned down as a mark of respect for his hosts and Christian Eriksen. “(Coach) Roberto Martinez got me into the game by asking me to create space. I scored,” the playmaker has&nbsp;told RTBF. “But I didn’t want to celebrate that goal. I have too much respect for the Danish fans.”

With two names already in the last-16 - Italy and Belgium - can the Netherlands make it three by the end of play? If they win, they will sit on six points, three ahead of Austria and Ukraine, and far in front of North Macedonia on zero. Given that the former two have to play each other still, only one side would be able to theoretically catch them - meaning that a win in Amsterdam will book their knockout slot after only two games.

Double delight for Dutch incoming?

A stubborn friendly defeat to England pre-Euro 2020 showed that&nbsp;Franco Foda's side would be able to cause some problems, but whether they will be able to get a major result in Group C tonight is another matter entirely. Victory over North Macedonia got them off to the perfect start however and they'll hope to double up heading towards the final round of group games. If there is a knock against them, it is that they've managed just two wins in 2021 - aside from the weekend, their only other victory was against the Faroe Islands.

Denmark shortfall laid bare

Frank de Boer looks to have named a 3-4-3 tonight, in his latest attempt to confound the Dutch public, but he'll be feeling in pretty good shape after his side batted away a Ukraine comback in their first game. The risk of another draw loomed in the wake of a 2-2 friendly with Scotland, before Denzel Dumfries rode to the rescue, and the hosts in Amsterdam will hope to avoid a repeat of such a near-miss this time around. It's one loss in their last 11 games - they'll be the favourites heading into this one.

Red Devils roar on

Almost two-dozen shots and only one goal are the stats that highlight where it went wrong for Denmark today, on a day that started with a superb opener and ends with the likelihood of a knockout stage finish slipping away. They can still get there of course; group stage ties are decided on head-to-head records and a win against Russia will give them the advantage there. If Finland fail to take a point off Belgium however, then it could all get a bit knotted. Still,&nbsp;Kasper Hjulmand's side can take scant solace that their journey isn't over yet - and that they may still fight for a last-16 spot next week.

The greatest?

Make no mistake, this was a performance where the visitors will have had their concerns, particularly around the back. With no offence intended, Denmark - shorn of their best playmaker too - are likely not going to be the toughest opponent they face at Euro 2020. But the pace, particularly in the first half, of their hosts' attack outlined a key weakness at the back, namely a struggle for some aging bodies to deal with high-press speed. A more clinical team would have taken more than one goal from 21 shots today - and Roberto Martinez will know it. His side improved in the second half, undoubtedly - but it's Kevin De Bruyne's puppet-master skills that made sure they got over the line today.

Majestic KDB hauls Belgium off canvas

Belgium become the second team to make the last-16 of Euro 2020 thanks to a superb second-half transformation! Questions about how Roberto Martinez's men might fare without some of their superstars looked to have been answered in a first-half performance where they were henpecked all around - but they've been deftly torn up with Kevin De Bruyne and Eden Hazard's second-act arrivals. The former in particular proved the flashpoint of the Red Devils' success, scoring a corker and assisting another - and with it, he has dashed Denmark's hopes to hand Christian Eriksen the best get-well-soon present they could at Parken Stadium.

A late free-kick for Denmark falls to catastrophe when they don't even find the mark and&nbsp;Kasper Schmeichel - up for the hope of a last-gasp finish - has to race back to his box. He's miles away when&nbsp;Thomas Meunier looks to smash it into an empty net but&nbsp;Andreas Skov Olsen gets across in the nick of time to deflect it away.

Schmeichel blushes spared

We're going to get a decent chunk of injury time, but whether Denmark can find something from it is another matter. They were superb in that first half, and then the silky steel of their visitors has left them gasping at points in this second half. Belgium have still only had five shots overall - but they have not needed to have any more. They've done the clinical work and let themselves hold firm since through a sprinkle of stardust - the very stardust that looks to have handed them the win.

Dynamic duo strikes again!

Two glorious chances in the space of three minutes now for Denmark though - and Belgium might count themselves lucky to not be back on level terms.&nbsp; Braithwaite is almost found with a teasing ball across the six-yard area, the Barcelona man just sliding behind it, and then he hits the woodwork with a header, rattling the top-left corner. So close but no coconut for the hosts. Belgium are holding on for an impressive turnaround victory - and a place in the knockout stages.

Everything but the kitchen sink

Thibaut Courtois just rode his luck at the edge of his box, almost carrying the ball out into open play as he slid across to ensure Denmark couldn't snag it. Some smart play means he just avoids the white lines.&nbsp;Mathias Jensen is booked for a challenge in short order, to compound the hosts' woes. It is stunning just how a handful of creative changes from Belgium have seen them turn this one around in such tricksy fashion.

That being said, Belgium still haven't quite solved the problem of what to do when Denmark steam into the box at full-tilt. Toby Alderweireld is called upon to make a last-gasp block on&nbsp;Braithwaite again. Vestergaard sticks a header in from the subsequent corner and&nbsp;Courtois bats it away, only to suffer a knock in the process. He'll have to pause for some help from the physios now. He looks fine to continue.

Kevin De Bruyne and Eden Hazard are still getting back to full fitness, you know. And they can still do this! The former's introduction at half-time has changed the whole dynamic of this game. As it stands, Belgium are going to be the second side into the knockout stages of Euro 2020, unless Denmark can find a response. They almost do, with&nbsp;Martin Braithwaite wrestling a low shot through a crowded box, forcing&nbsp;Thibaut Courtois to palm it away. Lukaku and De Bruyne break, and the latter fires an attempt straight to&nbsp;Schmeichel after another exceptional pass.&nbsp;&nbsp;Mathias Jensen and&nbsp;Andreas Cornelius are on for the hosts.

What a left-footer that is from Kevin De Bruyne! It's the build-up play to savour again from Belgium, started by wonderful movement from Romelu Lukaku out wide on the right, before Youri Tielmans and Eden Hazard combine around the edge of the box. They lay it back to their fellow playmaker and De Bruyne absolute rifles a low effort in from outside the penalty area, crashing past&nbsp;Kasper Schmeichel at the near post on the left. Glorious stuff!

Suddenly, Belgium have the wind in their sails. They've been caged in superbly throughout this game across the first hour for the most part, helped by a high Danish press that has poked holes in their defence with sharp pace. Now, they've flipped the switch. The Red Devils that have built a fearsome reputation under Roberto Martinez have ascended to the field of play. Christian Norgaard is hurled on as a response from Denmark. This contest, all tied up, is there for the taking.

If Denmark's heads were left spinning by that goal, then they'll need to steady them fast - Eden Hazard has just entered the fray, along with Axel Witsel. The Real Madrid man has been far from his best since he moved from Chelsea, beset by injuries, but he remains a top-tier talent. They arrive just after Daniel Wass is handed the first booking of the game for a particularly spectacular off-key challenge.

Maestro moves from KDB

That's what Kevin De Bruyne can do! Oh, for all the work Denmark have done in this game to keep the world's number one team pegged back, it just takes a moment of fluid team execution to undo them. It is magnificent stuff though, De Bruyne feeding Lukaku deep down the right channel. The forward turns two defenders around but can't find a clean shot, so plays it back to the Manchester City man. He could likely fire home - but instead, he turns another defender around, and pulls it across for Thorgan Hazard to tap simply in. Fantastic interplay to watch and Belgium have their equaliser!

Can De Bruyne deliver the dynamite?

Mikkel Damsgaard tries to dart around the edge of Belgium's box now and&nbsp;Youri Tielemans lunge out to step on his foot.&nbsp; It's a close-range set-piece spot, but Denmark can't beat the well-formed, compact wall in their way.&nbsp; Still, the hosts are still showing fine promise, and&nbsp;Jannik Vestergaard cuts back well to cut off a Romelu Lukaku run after De Bruyne had lashed a long ball downfield to craft the counter.

Thomas Delaney might have seen his name in lights there for a moment, as the pitch opened up in front of him 20 or so yards out from goal. His effort is pretty wayward by Denmark's standard today however and it causes absolutely no trouble for Belgium. The visitors carve out their first chance of the half down the opposite end, a loose loop of a header from&nbsp;Thomas Meunier that goes up like that football in A Grand Day Out and never comes back to earth.

A little later than expected, we have got back underway in Copenhagen - and Kevin De Bruyne is on for Belgium. We haven't seen the Manchester City man since he was forced from the field three weeks ago in their Champions League Final defeat to Chelsea. He replaces&nbsp;Dries Mertens. A true tribute

No need to pinch yourselves, Denmark fans - you lead the number one side in the world in Euro 2020, after a superb first-half performance. Kasper Hjulmand's side have delivered a tribute to Christian Eriksen beyond their dreams, thanks to a lightning start via&nbsp;Yussuf Poulsen's goal. Belgium have spluttered and started at points, but haven't really pulled off the driveway. They've had one shot proper in this game. Roberto Martinez will have some stern words about Belgium's defence at half-time, we can assure you. Damsgaard snatches a rushed clearing ball, and cuts a neat path between three men before just pushing a low finish wide of the left post. A few inches to the right and that might have been 2-0 to the hosts. Denmark remain a sparky presence as this game winds its way towards half-time. But there's still only a one-goal cushion for them to hold on to.

A proper good punch from&nbsp;Kasper Schmeichel there!
