'Lacazette could be sold in the summer' - Arsenal striker under 'massive pressure', says Petit

Alexandre Lacazette is under “massive pressure” at Arsenal and could be sold in the summer, says Emmanuel Petit.

Having pursued the France international for several years, the Gunners finally got their man in 2017 when completing a £46 million deal with Lyon.

The 26-year-old striker enjoyed a positive start to his time in England, netting eight times by early December.

He has, however, managed just one effort in his last 12 appearances and seen Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang snapped up for £55m to see questions being asked of his ongoing presence in north London.

Former Gunners midfielder Petit believes his fellow Frenchman could be moved on at the end of the season, telling The Sun: “Lacazette is under massive pressure.

“He needs to improve or face the exit this summer. Aubameyang’s signing tells me it might already be too late.

“Arsene Wenger’s belief in Lacazette has gone.

“After six months his statistics are not exactly tremendous.

“Auba is exactly the man Arsenal need.”

Lacazette, like Aubameyang, was acquired on the back of a prolific record at his former club.

He arrived at Arsenal having netted 129 times for Lyon in just 275 appearances.

The Premier League has, however, presented quite the challenge to a man experiencing life outside of his homeland for the first time.

His form and confidence has dipped noticeably, with Aubameyang’s impressive goal-scoring performance on debut against Everton – and his strong understanding with fellow new arrival Henrikh Mkhitaryan – doing little to aid the cause of a man who could slip into the shadows.
