Jeremy Brockie: Mamelodi Sundowns striker joins Maritzburg United on loan

After being heavily linked with a move away from Mamelodi Sundowns, striker Jeremy Brockie has finally joined Maritzburg United on a season-long loan deal.

The 31-year-old was previously linked with several clubs around the Gauteng province, but it was only on the final day of the PSL transfer window, it emerged Sundowns were not keen on allowing him to join any of their rivals.

“The club is delighted to announce the signing of Jeremy Brockie on loan from Mamelodi Sundowns until the end of the season,” announced the Team of Choice on Monday night.

The former SuperSport United star had struggled for regular game time at Chloorkop, and his form also dipped soon after joining the club in January 2018.

Having established himself as a top scorer at Matsantsantsa, the lanky marksman could not maintain his goalscoring form with the reigning PSL champions, thus falling down the pecking order at Sundowns.

On the other hand, the Tshwane giants signed Lebohang Maboe from the Team of Choice and Emiliano Tade from AmaZulu which was an indication the Christchurch-born star was not delivering the goods for Pitso Mosimane.

With coach Mosimane constantly speaking to the media regarding the striker’s future, it was clear Brockie was no longer happy at Sundowns.

Brockie previously worked with Eric Tinkler at SuperSport before completing his switch to the former African champions and will look to reignite his career by playing as many games as possible in the next few months.

Meanwhile, Brockie will compete with the likes of Judas Moseamedi, Thabiso Kutumela and Gabriel Nyoni for a place in the starting line-up.
