After failing to qualify for the World Cup three years ago, Italy will be determined to put in a strong showing at Euro 2020.
That was the first time since 1992 they were not taking part in a major tournament but being drawn into Group A with Turkey, Wales and Switzerland means they could be set for a deep run.
Euro 2020 Qualification
The disappointment of missing the 2018 World Cup was still palpable but a repeat was never on the cards here as Italy breezed through qualifying with a 100 per cent record.
It only took seven games for the Azzurri to confirm their place at Euro 2020, and their Group J campaign was rounded out with an incredible 9-1 victory over Armenia.
Despite scoring a total of 37 goals in their 10 matches, Andrea Belotti was top scorer with four strikes as 19 different players got on the scoresheet.
Tournament History
Italy boast a remarkably strong record in the European Championship with one win, two further appearances in the final and another semi-final defeat.
That tournament victory came all the way back in 1968 when they beat Yugoslavia in the final and, although they have not been starved for success with two World Cups since then, another European crown has eluded them.
Euro 2016 saw the Azzurri ease through the group stage as winners and then recorded an impressive 2-0 win over reigning champions Spain in the last 16, but their challenge was ended by then-world champions Germany after a 6-5 penalty shootout defeat.
