“It was a miracle’ - Faith Ikidi reflects on winning Swedish title with Pitea

Nigeria international Faith Ikidi says ‘it was a miracle’ helping Pitea IF to clinch their first ever Swedish Damallsvenskan title in the 2018 season following a 6-1 win over Vaxjo.

Despite suffering a setback in 1-0 win at Rosengard, Stellan Carlsson’s ladies left it for the final day in the race for the title to pip Kopparberg/Göteborg and Rosengard to the top spot.

And the Super Falcons defender revealed their rough experience and how they pull through to win the Swedish National Championship for the first time in their history on Saturday.

“It was indeed a drama, though nobody believed in us,” Ikidi told Goal.

“They did not because from the beginning our coach’s six years old son was diagnosed with cancer and one of our key players broke her ankle. I break my elbow.

“In the midst of these all, they gave us zero chance because they use to analyse the league and decide who will win and who will drop to the Elitettan [second division]. So you can see why it was dramas all through but all thanks to God.

“I will say it was a miracle because we even lost important games and people doubted if we will win but I kept saying we will win. We fell but never remained on the floor but kept fighting.

“We have also even started the calculation when we lost against Kristianstads which was our last lost in five games before on Monday and we knew Göteborg we win them is just for us to win our last home game.

“It was the hand of God on us. God was really with us. It is my year of the supernatural breakthrough and that’s what I took here. I am very special to the team and my coach built the team around me but I know is the grace of God that brought us the glory.”
