Mumbai City head coach Alexandre Guimaraes was happy with his side's 2-0 win over NorthEast United in Guwahati on Wednesday. Balwant Singh took advantage of two defensive blunders by the home side to notch a brace and three points for his side.
"I am very satisfied because we improved our game. We punched them in the right moments. For the first goal, we recognized the situation to put this ball [forward] for a goal. For the second one, our players felt [the need] to press the centre-backs."
"Winning also put us in front. Now we can look forward with much more confidence and optimism," said the former Costa Rica international who saw his team climb up to fourth in the table following the win against NorthEast United.
Despite creating chances, the home side failed to get into the game in the second half as the result of a good defensive display and the coach reserved special praise for his full-backs.
"They [Davinder and Ruidas] performed very well. We managed to rotate Davinder with Wadoo. When we have this short period between games, last game he didn't play. He is a young player, we are trying to give chances to young players. It is the same with Ruidas, who is defensively performing much better. During the second half of last game and today, he got the confidence to go in front."
The Brazil-born coach also praised Gerson Vieira who screened the defence and did well against Marcinho in the absence of Sehnaj Singh who was suspended for the game due to the accumulation of yellow cards.
"We had an idea. Because of the absence of Sehnaj, he had to cover more zones and he did it well. I am very glad that he is playing with us. Because it is not easy to get a young player like him."
