ISL 2017-18: FC Goa had the opportunity to win the game, says Sergio Lobera

On Wednesday evening, FC Goa were restricted to a draw by Delhi Dynamos when Hugo Boumous’ strike was cancelled out by Kalu Uche in the 81st minute of the match. The 1-1 result meant that The Gaurs are now winless in as many as five games. The two points dropped at the Fatorda also means that the Goan outfit is further distanced from a berth in the playoffs.

The hosts opened their account in the 53rd minute and coach Sergio Lobera was ready to make a defensive change just before Kalu Uche found the net. He was forced to introduce two attackers in quick succession in Mark Sifneos and Manvir Singh. Explaining the move, he recalls, ‘’The idea was to get Pronay (Halder) out and boost the defence a bit further. Just at that moment, we conceded the goal and we had to change the decision to move forcibly to attack.''

Further, the head coach emphasized the opportunities which were wasted by his boys and stated that the team now needs to bounce back for the upcoming fixtures. ‘’A lot of times putting more strikers forward doesn't mean that you'll get more chances at goal. I think today we had the opportunity to win the game. We had two clear options. One was Mandar (Rao Dessai) and one was Coro (Ferran Corominas) but it just didn't go in. It's time to keep our head up and keep looking forward,’’ Lobera signed off.

FC Goa have three matches left to hunt for top four as they face FC Pune City (away), ATK (away) and Jamshedpur (away).
