Inter Milan shut the door on Barcelona

Giuseppe Marotta has slammed the door shut on talk of Lautaro Martinez leaving Inter, the president insisting nothing exists that could push the Nerazzurri captain out of the club.

Speaking to DAZN before Inter's opening match against Monza in the 2026-2027 Serie A season, Marotta said: "Lautaro is our captain and represents the history of Inter at the present time, and the circumstances that might push him to leave do not exist. We should not even be talking about it."

Those words land with reports over the Argentine striker's future refusing to go away. Martinez is central to this side, technically and as a leader, and one of the standout names in the squad crowned Italian league champions.

Inter's ambitions

According to the website of journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, Marotta turned to the team's targets for the new campaign. Holding the league title, he stressed, obliges the players to raise their ambitions while keeping the mentality that drove the club's recent successes.

He explained: "We must raise the ceiling of our aspirations, while being aware that we are champions of Italy. We start with the same motivations and goals we had last season, holding on to the winning culture that has distinguished us over recent years."

Continuity built the project, the president noted, yet this summer the management had to weigh the age of several players. The dressing room, he confirmed, holds more than 30 titles between them, giving the group huge experience and weight.

Possible moves

On the transfer market, Marotta left the door open to fresh deals before the window shuts. Any move, he stressed, would come in coordination with the coach and in line with the team's needs.

The management are watching the opportunities in the closing stage of the mercato, he added, confirming: "If a real need emerges, we will invest again," while backing the current squad to compete.

Inter, holders of the Italian league title, kick off the new season against Monza at the San Siro. It is an early test for a side chasing back-to-back titles and a firmer place among the giants of Italian football.
