Huddersfield Town vs Derby County Betting Tips: Latest odds, team news, preview and prediction

Huddersfield Town host Derby County in the Championship on Monday night.

Jan Siewert's side are back in the second tier after being relegated from the Premier League last term but will be targeting an immediate return to the top flight.

Derby's dreams of a Premier League place were dashed by defeat against Aston Villa in the Championship play-off final in May. Since then, manager Frank Lampard has departed for Chelsea, with Phillip Cocu taking up the reins at Pride Park.

Latest odds

Huddersfield are chalked up as bet365's 23/20 (2.15) favourites to kick off their Championship challenge with victory at John Smith's Stadium.

The visitors can be backed at 11/4 (3.75) with bet365 to pick up all three points from their trip to West Yorkshire. The same firm go 12/5 (3.40) that Monday's match ends all square.

Team news

Tommy Elphick, Herbert Bockhorn and Reece Brown have joined Huddersfield Town so far this summer. Isaac Mbenza has also made his move to West Yorkshire permanent after being on loan with the Terriers last term.

Jack Marriott, who scored 13 goals for Derby last season, is only expected to be fit enough for a place on the bench. Duane Holmes will miss out on the match against his former employers.

Krystian Bielik and Matt Clarke joined the Rams on Friday and go straight into the squad. Graeme Shinnie and Kieran Dowell - on loan from Everton - were recruited earlier in the summer. All four could start for the Rams on Monday night.

Preview

There have been more than two goals scored in just one of Huddersfield's six pre-season fixtures this summer. Derby, meanwhile, failed to find the net in their two most recent friendly matches.

As such, bet365's 8/11 (1.73) quote for fewer than three goals to be scored could offer decent value, as could the 5/6 (1.83) quote from the same firm on either side failing to find the net during Monday's match.

Tip and Prediction

There is plenty of potential for a low-scoring contest when these two teams lock horns.

Derby's recently recruited defensive reinforcements will give Cocu confidence that his side can keep things tight at John Smith's Stadium. Meanwhile, the Terriers have conceded just two goals in their last five pre-season outings.

As such, value could lie in backing the first half of this fixture to end goalless at 13/8 (2.63) with bet365.
