Galekovic retires as City confirm departures

After 288 A-League appearances, Eugene Galekovic has decided to retire despite another strong season with Melbourne City.

The veteran keeper was recently awarded City's Player of the Year but will hang up the gloves after falling to Adelaide United in an elimination final.

"I’m sad to call it a day but proud of my career and what I have achieved," Galekovic said.

"Thanks to my parents for giving me the opportunity from a young age to realise my dreams and thanks to my partner who has supported me in my journey.

"These past two seasons at City have been very rewarding and I’ve enjoyed sharing my experience and helping along the younger players. There is a lot of talent in the ranks at City and I’m sure success is just around the corner."

In the wake of City parting ways with coach Warren Joyce on Wednesday, the club also confirmed loan trio Ritchie De Laet, Shay Harrison and Riley McGree will all be returning to their parent clubs.

Lacopo La Rocca and James Delianov meanwhile have been released by City with the latter signing on with Western United.

Dean Bouzanis and Denis Genreau both spent this season out on loan with Eredivisie side PEC Zwolle and City have confirmed the duo are now expected to return to Australia for next season.
