Former Liverpool star joins Salah in Trabzon

A former teammate of Egyptian star Mohamed Salah has moved closer to joining him at Turkish side Trabzonspor, after reaching a verbal agreement for a free transfer, according to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano.

Brazilian international Fabinho became a free agent following his departure from Saudi club Al-Ittihad this summer. Romano said, via his account on "X", that the midfielder is preparing to travel to Trabzon within the next 24 to 48 hours, with a medical appointment booked ahead of completing the deal, should proceedings go according to plan.

Complete the deal and Fabinho will be reunited with his former Liverpool teammate Mohamed Salah, who moved to Trabzonspor this summer.

The pair played alongside each other at Liverpool for five seasons. Fabinho joined from Monaco in 2018, before leaving in the summer of 2023 for Al-Ittihad.

During that spell, the Brazilian was one of the key players in the side that was crowned Champions League winners in 2019 and Premier League champions in 2019-2020, among other titles.

Salah has featured in two matches for Trabzonspor so far. He made his first appearance against Kasimpasa in the Turkish league, a match that ended in a 1-1 draw.

His second came against Hungary's Ferencvaros, in the first leg of the qualifying round for the league phase of the Europa League, when Trabzon lost at home 1-0.
