EXTRA TIME: "No Mane and Salah?" - South African football agrees with Eto'o on the Best Fifa awards

The social media post which got most South Africans talkingย was the video of Cameroon legend Samuel Eto'o at the Best Fifa Football Awards 2019.

The former Barcelona and Inter Milan star was asked who he thought was the best player of the year. Eto'o was clearly upset and made his point that both Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah were not in the running, and believing they were 'the best'.

You can watch the video below thanks to South African journalist Mazola Molefe who has called Eto'o the 'Goat' on Twitter.

Interestingly, Fifa released the full top 10 after the show, revealing how Salah finished fourth, slightly behind Cristiano Ronaldo. Salah's Liverpool teammate Mane finished fifth.

Nevertheless, South Africans were already unhappy, including SABC journalist Velile Mnyandu who stated on Twitter that Fifa is ignoring Africans.

At least the women's football stars were psyched up for the show, including a number of posts during the event. Former Banyana Banyana coach Vera Pauw was at the event, as well as current head coach Desiree Ellis.

Famous football presenter Carol Tshabalala went with her family and helped them meet a number of stars who featured in the Fifaย Fifproย Men'sย Team of the Year.

South African captain Janine Van Wyk agreed with Lianne Sanderson that Ronaldo was the best, even though Leo Messi was the eventual winner. Virgil van Dijk finished second behind the Barcelona star.
