Enugu Rangers coach blames missed chances for Lobi Stars stalemate

Enugu Rangers coach Gbenga Ogunbote has identified the profligacy of his team in front of goal as the major reason why they failed to beat Lobi Stars in their rescheduled Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) tie.

The Flying Antelopes were denied maximum points from their home game despite holding a slim one-goal advantage until the 90th minute of the match played at Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium.

Solomon Kwambe’s well-struck free kick in added time ensured that the points were evenly shared between the home and visiting teams.

Reflecting on how the game finally ended, Ogunbote admitted that his side was the architect of their own misfortune.

“Once again, we are undone by our lack of converting chances created. It was a clear two points dropped but we thank God for the result against an equally good side and hope to take the positives from the match going forward.” Ogunbote told the club media

“The match would have been won and lost had we buried the numerous opportunities we created but the end result shows that it is not over until it is over. We continue to fight to keep our place at the top of the log to qualify for the end of the season super-six to have the opportunity to get a crack at the continent again.”

Despite the dropped points, Rangers are still top on the NPFL Group A table with 28 points from 13 matches, closely followed by Enyimba and MFM with 24 points each from 15 matches.

Rangers will face MFM in their next league game, and the fixture scheduled for Easter Sunday will take place at Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium.
