England v Belgium: World Cup's sharpest shooters in frightening form

The Premier League forwards are hungry for goals in Russia

Two of the World Cup's sharpest shooters will look to continue their fine form in front of goal as Belgium and England do battle.

Three Lions front man Harry Kane leads the golden boot race so far in Russia with five goals from two games and Romelu Lukaku is just one strike behind him after doubles in both of his matches to date.

The Belgian forward is under an injury cloud heading into this game but will surely be desperate to add to his World Cup tally.

While this is an encounter both nations might not be necessarily desperate to win with progression to the knockout stages guaranteed, it’s another chance for these two strikers to build on some already frightening form in the final third

Kane has scored in each of his past five games for England, including a rather fortunate hat-trick against Panama, while Lukaku has struck 23 times from 20 appearances under Belgium manager Roberto Martinez.

The United striker’s four goals in Russia have come from his only four shots on target too with the Belgian buoyed even more so by some good history against England’s number one Jordan Pickford.

Lukaku has played three Premier League games against Pickford scoring five goals that included a hat-trick back in 2016.

Both Kane and Lukaku are entering their peaks as strikers and will not let a potentially less than favourable round-of-16 draw should their side win this game quench their hunger for goals.

Victory in this clash could see the winner face Colombia in the knockout stages, while Japan or Senegal await the runner-up.

Regardless of those permutations however, this is a game neither side nor striker will be looking to take a backwards step in.

England will be hoping to continue their dominance of Belgium having lost just once in their past 21 meetings.

While the Belgians will be out to continue building momentum having won their past four games and not lost in their past 21 encounters.
