Chemelil Sugar 0-1 AFC Leopards: Unstoppable Rupia on target again

AFC Leopards have continued with their good run in the Kenyan Premier League (KPL) after defeating struggling Chemelil Sugar 1-0 at Kericho Green Stadium

The 13-time league champions managed to defeat the Sugar Millers 4-0 in the first leg, when former striker John Makwatta scored a brace with Soter Kayumba and Tresor Ndikumana scoring one goal apiece. The relegation-threatened side was keen on avoiding the same from happening.

However, it was not going to be easy against the Anthony Kimani-led side who had managed to defeat Sofapaka 2-1 in their last game played at Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega.

The inform Elvis Rupia scored after just seven minutes, capitalising on defensive frailties by the Charles Odera charges - the goal took his tally of the season to nine. It happened to be the only goal in the first half as the visitors wasted many clear scoring opportunities.

A determined Chemelil upped their game after the break with hopes of getting an equaliser, but they could not beat the Ingwe defence.

Clyde Senaji was sent off in the 78th minute after a second bookable offence to set up a tense finale. However, Leopards stood firm to ensure they got their 11th win of the season.

In another top tier game, Sofapaka suffered their second loss in a row after falling by a solitary goal against Ulinzi Stars.

After a goalless first half, the four-time champions got their winner with 20 minutes to go. Batoto ba Mungu conceded a penalty and Enosh Ochieng stepped up to give the Soldiers the three points.
