Champions League Betting: Tottenham 5/2 to get the better of Ajax

Tottenham can secure an all-English Champions League final on Wednesday but they have their work cut out in Amsterdam.

A 1-0 defeat in North London sees Spurs as 5/2 (3.50) underdogs to overcome an Ajax side that have been irresistible in this season's competition.

Erik ten Hag's side have already knocked out holders Real Madrid and a well-fancied Juventus side. bet365 are just 2/7 (1.29) about Wednesday's hosts joining Liverpool in the final.

Only one of the 17 previous teams to lose the first leg at home in a Champions League or European Cup semi-final has progressed. The exception was Ajax's 1995-96 side who got the better of Panathinaikos 3-1 on aggregate.

Spurs' recent form will give little encouragement to their backers. Mauricio Pochettino's side have lost four of their last five matches in all competitions, failing to score in each of those defeats.

Ajax are 23/20 (2.15) to complete a Champions League double with victory on Wednesday night. Should they come out on top, it would be a seventh consecutive victory for the Dutch side in all competitions.

However, the hosts have failed to win any of their last three Champions League clashes at this venue with much of their best work in the knockout stages coming on the road.

It’s worth noting that both knockout rounds saw Ajax play at home first so there was no need to go all out for a victory knowing a score draw or narrow defeat were far from terminal for their chances of progression.

Tottenham are priced at 12/5 (3.40) to win the second leg with the draw trading at 27/10 (3.70) at the time of writing.

The visitors will have Son Heung-min available for their trip to Amsterdam after the 26-year-old missed the first leg due to suspension.

Son was sent off against Bournemouth last time out and is a 5/4 (2.25) chance to find the net after netting twice in his sides' quarter final second leg clash with Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium. It’s 9/2 (5.50) that the South Korea international opens the scoring on Wednesday evening.
