Betting Tips for Today: Romania can kick off Nations League campaign with a win

Romania and Montenegro have been drawn together in Group 4 of Nations League C. The pair should be pretty familiar with one another having also met in qualification for the 2018 World Cup, although neither nation managed to progress.

Since the end of those campaigns though, these sides have experienced markedly different fortunes.

Romania have played six friendlies, winning five of them including victories against Turkey, Chile and Sweden. A 1-0 defeat to Montenegro was the last game in charge for German coach Christoph Daum and since then, the Tricolorii are going along very nicely under new man Cosmin Contra.

888Sport are 7/10 (1.70) about the hosts extending their winning run here and the home side look easy enough to back considering the form of their opposition.

Montenegro's last win was a year ago in Daum's last game in charge, and since then they've played five times drawing three and losing the other two. Perhaps just as importantly, Friday's visitors have failed to score in three of those outings. An away win here is available at 43/10 (5.30) with a stalemate priced at 5/2 (3.50) with the same firm.

It's tough to read too much into friendly form, especially towards the end of the season but a change in management certainly seems to have sparked a marked improvement in Romania's fortunes.

Contra's men will also feel they have some making up to do after spurning a golden opportunity to pick up a victory the last time the teams met in Romania.

The home side took the lead in the 85th minute only for Stevan Jovetic to equalise. Nicolae Stanciu then went on to miss a penalty in the seventh minute of added time so this a chance to make up for that disappointing result despite the subsequent change of manager.

A tough trip to Serbia awaits Romania on Monday so three points here would be all-important as they make their debut appearance in the Nations League. At 7/10 (1.70) they look a solid bet to continue what has been an impressive start for their new coach against a side lacking confidence, especially in the final third.
