Betting Special: William Hill pay out on Solskjaer becoming the permanent Manchester United manager

Bookmaker William Hill have settled all outstanding bets on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to remain in charge of Manchester United next season.

The firm had previously been offering a market on which manager would be in the dugout for the first game of the 2019-20 campaign but now believe it's only a matter of time until Solskjaer is confirmed as staying on at Old Trafford.

The pay-out totals £25,000 so while it's not a ground-breaking decision, it shows the confidence in United sticking with their interim choice on a longer-term basis.

Initially available in the market at 33/1 (34.0) after Jose Mourinho's departure, the biggest return to single player will be £680, courtesy of a £20 stake at the original quote.

Since then, the 46-year-old had been backed into as short as 1/8 (1.12) to retain the role with the largest bet seeing one punter invest £480 at Evens (2.0).

“Ole has clearly bagged the United job on a permanent basis. It would be impossible for the board to give the job to someone else and so we are paying out early and won’t be reopening it any time soon,” said William Hill spokesman Joe Crilly.

It's certainly difficult to see the club going in a different direction, even if the original appointment was only intended to be temporary. That’s a view shared by many including former player Gary Neville who hinted that the decision could be confirmed during the international break later this month.

Since Solskjaer's arrival, United have won 14 of their 17 games in all competitions. The only defeat of the Norwegian's reign so far came against Paris Saint-Germain at Old Trafford, a result they were subsequently able to turn around in dramatic fashion at the Parc des Princes.

On the day that Mourinho was given his marching orders the Red Devils were as big as 14/1 (15.0) to achieve a top four finish in the Premier League, but their unbeaten domestic run now sees that selection at 11/10 (2.10) with William Hill.
