Eden Hazard, Diego Costa and Pedro seemed the stars most likely to step up and provide the moment that secured Antonio Conte's first title as Chelsea manager. But it was an unlikely figure in Michy Batshuayi who emerged from the shadows and confirmed the inevitable.
Batshuayi has suffered an awful season in west London in his first year with the club, but he will feel that all his time on the training pitch have been vindicated after he was called upon in the 75th minute.
He was sharp and found the space that Costa, Hazard and Pedro couldn't spot, applying a poacher's finish in the 82nd minute as Fabregas scuffed his long-range shot into the air, with Cesar Azpilicueta chasing a lost cause to get the assist.
The Belgium international will forever be known as the man who won the sixth title, just as Frank Lampard was known for being the man who won title number two. He also gets to celebrate the first major honour of his career in his first season after his £33 million move from Marseille.
It was only his third shot on target all season, but those shots yielded the goal versus West Brom and another back in August against Watford. He only had eight touches and made 12 sprints, but he was decisive as Chelsea's poacher.

He is still to earn himself a Premier League start, having made 18 appearances from the bench, as his 127 minutes on the pitch highlight what would have been a frustrating year up until that moment.
Hazard provided the title-winning goal in the past two championship wins as Belgium and Chelsea find a partnership in glory. It took 24 shots as the Blues huffed and puffed before they eventually blew Tony Pulis' house down.
It was one of the most frustrating and defensive displays against a Chelsea side as West Brom moulded their game plan on Jose Mourinho's in the FA Cup as Manchester United boss.
A 6-3-1 formation seems to cause frustration for Chelsea, but they are able to find ways win in almost any circumstance. Conte's side once again showed the persistence to earn all three points, to the envy of Tottenham and the rest of the top six in England.
Batshuayi has been a loaded gun all season, building in frustration. But it was Conte who picked the right moment to let him loose in his final step to league glory.
