Barcelona vs Liverpool Betting Special: Messi likely to sink Reds at Anfield

Liverpool need goals at Anfield on Tuesday night against Barcelona but Jurgen Klopp goes into the game missing two of his most important attacking players.

Mohamed Salah picked up a head injury on Saturday while Roberto Firmino had already been ruled out with a muscle problem, leaving Sadio Mane as the only member of their attacking trident fully fit for the game.

Barca, for their part, have Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez fit and rested for the game, with the Catalans enjoying the luxury of resting almost their entire first team for their La Liga clash on Saturday evening.

Messi grabbed the headlines in last week's first leg netting a brace, the second of which was a stunning free-kick from around 30 yards out.

The beauty of that strike contrasted to the relative scrappiness of his first of the night, yet it underlined the fact that the 31-year-old can score any different type of goal.

Despite playing for the visiting side on Tuesday evening, Messi remains the shortest priced player to score offer at evens (2.00) with William Hill to net.

Anytime the Argentine is offered around even money to score it has to be worthy of consideration, while Messi can also be backed at 16/5 (4.20) to score first.

It was Suarez who broke the deadlock in the first leg and the Uruguayan is priced at 6/5 (2.20) to net what would be his second goal in this season's competition.

With Ousmane Dembele out, Philippe Coutinho could start and the former Liverpool man is offered at 7/2 (4.50) to score on his return to Merseyside.

Reds look for other options

Liverpool have netted 18 goals in this season's competition, although nine of those were scored by the absent trio of Firmino, Salah and Naby Keita. As such, Sadio Mane is the shortest-priced home player to score at 13/10 (2.30).

James Milner is priced at 4/1 (5.00) to score at anytime and that could be a solid option for a value bet. As well as being penalty taker, Milner got into some promising positions at the Camp Nou and could easily have scored his third Champions League goal of the season.

Tips and predictions

It is difficult to ignore the price for Messi to score, and for punters to be able to double their money if the Argentine finds the back of the net looks like being too good an option to miss out on.

The Rosario-born forward is extremely versatile in his scoring ability and whether it is a free-kick, a penalty, a header or a mazy run, Messi should be able to increase his total of goals in the competition on Tuesday evening.
