Eric Bailly lasted less than an hour of his Manchester United comeback for the reserves before an ankle injury saw him substituted in the Premier League 2 clash with Everton on Monday.
The Cote d’Ivoire centre-back has not featured for United’s first team since December 31, 2016 due to Africa Cup of Nations duty, but after his country’s early exit from the competition last week he returned to Manchester.

However, in his first run-out since landing back in the UK, he limped out of the under-23 fixture in the 58th minute after suffering a knock to the ankle in making a run down the right which eventually led to the penalty from which United equalised.
Bailly went down clutching his ankle after the burst, having seemingly taken a kick from an Everton tackler, and interim under-23 boss Nicky Butt was quick to replace him with Tyrell Warren in what appeared to be a precautionary measure.
First-team boss Jose Mourinho will be hopeful that Bailly’s injury is nothing serious, with the defender expected to play some part in United’s forthcoming games amidst a heavy workload for the senior side.
Although his involvement in the second-string clash in Leigh will probably rule him out of Wednesday’s Premier League fixture against Hull City at Old Trafford, Bailly could yet feature in Sunday’s trip to champions Leicester City should he recover from the injury which curtailed his evening on Monday.
