Facing relegation and a Vissel Kobe side boasting Andres Iniesta and Lukas Podolski, Yokohama F.Marinos managed to pull off a 2-0 upset and ease the pressure on Australian coach Ange Postecoglou.
The crucial away win was secured in the 85th minute through a Teruhito Nakagawa strike but it was Yokohama's opening goal half an hour earlier that really caught the eye.
In his first start for the club, 17-year-old and former Barcelona academy player Takefusa Kubo smashed home his first senior goal with his celebration paying tribute to Postecoglou.
Despite the sheer delirium of finding the backing of the net for the first time, Kubo purposely sought out the former Socceroos coach on the sidelines to share his moment of joy with.
Sitting 15th in the J-League and on the back of three straight losses, Postecoglou wasn't afraid to roll the dice with Kubo as he handed him his first minutes for Yokohama.
That gamble was duly awarded in the 56th minute with the Australian coach quickly getting the most out of one of Japan's brightest talents.
Kubo spent four years in the Barcelona academy, netting a stunning 74 goals in 30 games for their U11's side but would ultimately be forced out of the club after they were found to have breached FIFA transfer rules for under-age players.
Despite that setback, Kubo would return to Japan and make his J-league debut at just 15 - the same age he was called up to Japan's U20 World Cup squad.
Now playing and scoring under Postecoglou, he could be exactly the edge Marinos need as they look to get their season back on track.
