Agent reveals why Sekola dumped Free State Stars for Highlands Park

As revealed last week, Sekola joined Highlands Park on a three-year deal from Free State Stars.

Gordon Igesund's charges are languishing dangerously at the bottom of the PSL table and they're desperate to turn their season around this year.

However, the former Free State Stars forward’s decision looks to have been motivated by the allure of a big money than game time.

“The Lions of the North came up with a lucrative offer they could not refuse.” Sekola’s agent Ratshibvumo Mulovhedzi told SunSport.

The player’s agent also revealed that Ea Lla Koto had looked to keep the player in Bethlehem.

“We have been negotiating with Stars since December, as they tried to extend his stay, but we failed to reach an agreement because they were not willing to improve his contract,” he continued.

“Sekola is getting older and we want his future secured. That’s why we decided to go with the highest bidder.” Mulovhedzi concluded.

The Botshabelo-born frontman will now look to reignite his career under Igesund, who is known for his affection for experienced players.

Sekola was South Africa’s most prolific goalscorer in the 2014/2015 campaign; the same season he earned his first Bafana Bafana call-up under former national team coach Shakes Mashaba.
