Croatia v Nigeria: Young guns and red cards set to flow in this World Cup clash

Expect a fiery Group D clash when Croatia and Nigeria face off in Kaliningrad to kick off their 2018 World Cup campaigns.

Having never played each other before, this match loom as an unpredictable one, however a few telling statistics suggest fireworks might be inevitable.

With Croatia's past four World Cup games resulting in five red cards being handed out and Nigeria boasting the youngest average age of any side in Russia - this game certainly has the potential to produce a moment or two of madness.

Croatia, who couldn't escape their group in Brazil, will enter the contest as favourites and dispatched Senegal 2-1 in their final friendly before the World Cup.

Nigeria on the other hand, are low on confidence after losing consecutive friendlies against England and Czech Republic in their build up to Russia.

With Argentina and Iceland rounding out a tight Group D, it's vital both these sides start the tournament on the right foot - something Croatia has struggled to do having lost the past three of their World Cup openers.

Nigeria's World Cup record is even worse, with the Super Falcons only winning one of their past 12 games at the tournament.

Odion Ighalo, who is expected to lead the Nigerian attack, stands to make his World Cup debut on his 29th birthday and will be desperately hoping he can mark his special day with a goal.

Having struck just four times in their past six games, the Nigerians have been struggling to find the back of the net and against a stubborn Croatian outfit will certainly have their work cut out.

While the result remains a difficult one to pick, expect the unexpected as two fiery sides do battle.
