    WHAT HAPPENED?

    Manchester City suffered their first defeat of the season on Wednesday night with a 2-1 loss at Tottenham in the Carabao Cup. Despite making several changes to their line-up, the visitors lost two key players to injury - Manuel Akanji pulled out of the starting XI in the warmup, while Savinho was stretchered off with an ankle problem in the second half.

    City are already without several star players due to injury, with Kevin De Bruyne, Jack Grealish and Kyle Walker among those still on the treatment table. Erling Haaland was an unused substitute in Wednesday's loss as Guardiola was scared of losing the Norwegian striker to a similar ailment.

    Guardiola said in his post-match press conference: "We are 13 players, so it's really difficult. I think we are in trouble, because in nine years we've never had a situation with many, many injuries. In these situations, the players make a step forward, they are more together than ever. They will try to do more this week with a short time for recovery."
