The USWNT is heading into this international window on the back of winning the 2023 SheBelieves Cup back in February. It is going to face Ireland in two international friendlies as part of its preparations for the FIFA Women’s World Cup that is slated to start in July.

This will be the second time that the USWNT will be playing at the Q2 Stadium. In 2021, it played here for the first time, defeating Nigeria 2-0 in front of a sold-out crowd.

Meanwhile, Ireland secured its first-ever ticket to the Women's World Cup after defeating Scotland, courtesy of a goal from forward Amber Barrett, in a playoff at Hampden Park in Glasgow. Goalkeeper Courtney Brosnan emerged as the most valuable player of the match as she saved Caroline Weir's Scotland penalty in the 12th minute.

The Girls in Greens have been drawn in Group B at the World Cup alongside Australia, Canada, and Nigeria. This is its first major tournament as it is yet to qualify for the Olympics or the UEFA Women’s Championship.

In February, it played a friendly against China at the Nuevo Mirador in Spain where it was held to a 0-0 draw by the Asian team.

    Head coach Vlatko Andonovski announced a 26-player roster for the April training camp and then pruned it to 23 before the two international friendlies. Twenty-one of the 23 players were part of the squad that won the 2023 SheBelieves Cup.

    Two-time World Cup champion Julie Ertz returns to the squad for the first time since the Tokyo Olympics after giving birth to her first child, a son, in August 2022, along with Casey Krueger, who also returns post-pregnancy.

    Veteran defender Kelley O’Hara is also making a comeback from an injury while Tierna Davidson will hope to make it to the starting XI after successfully recovering from her ACL injury.

    Ireland has a mix of youth and experience. Aine O’Gorman (115), Louise Quinn (101), and O’Sullivan (98) are the veterans with a wealth of experience while 18 players on the roster have 23 caps or less.

    Twenty-two of the 27 players on this roster ply their trade outside the country, including 15 in England, two in Scotland and three in the USA. This includes Brosnan (Everton), who is an American hailing from Far Hills, New Jersey, but changed associations later on.
