What a year! USWNT star Lindsey Horan up for Player of the Season award in France thanks to superb Lyon performances as PSG duo Grace Geyoro and Tabitha Chawinga round out nominees

Horan is one of three names in the running for the accolade, alongside the Paris Saint-Germain duo of Tabitha Chawinga and Grace Geyoro, having played a key role for a Lyon side currently top of the table. Despite sometimes being deployed in a deeper role, the USWNT midfielder has scored six times in the league this season as her side pursue a record-extending 17th title.

Chawinga and Geyoro have both had outstanding seasons in their own right, too. Geyoro has scored 11 league goals and provided three assists, driving PSG forward with her excellent leadership. Chawinga's numbers blow everyone else's out of water though. The Malawi international can boast an eye-watering 18 goals and 11 assists in just 19 appearances, with the Golden Boot surely hers.

Lyon's fight to retain its league title will be a little more complicated this year due to the play-off system that the French division has re-introduced. Once the regular season concludes, the top four teams will enter a knockout round, with it likely that Lyon and PSG meet in the final next month.

The two French rivals are currently locked into a fierce Women's Champions League semi-final, too, with Lyon having won the first leg last weekend thanks to an incredible comeback in a 3-2 thriller.

The D1 Player of the Season will be awarded on April 29, as will the accolades for the campaign's best coach, goalkeeper and young player. Horan and Lyon have a couple of games to play before then though, with their focus locked on a league meeting with Guingamp on Wednesday before the second leg of that UWCL clash with PSG on Sunday.
