Sauerbrunn, who joined Portland in 2020, entered the offseason as a free agent and was free to embark on a new challenge at the age of 38, but has surprisingly resigned with the Thorns for a fifth consecutive season. The Thorns have undergone a change in ownership with RAJ Sports acquiring the outfit for $63 million. In an offseason which has been marked by several Thorns departures, including Sauerbrunn's USWNT colleague Crystal Dunn, Natalia Kuikka, Emily Menges, and Raquel Rodríguez, her continued commitment provides stability to the team.
