  • WHAT HAPPENED?

USMNT midfielder Gio Reyna started Borussia Dortmund's Champions League match against FC Barcelona on Wednesday in a losing effort, as a Ferran Torres brace and a strike from Raphinha claimed all three points for the Spanish side on the road in a 3-2 victory. For the hosts, Serhou Guirassy net a second-half brace, but they came up just short against the Catalan giants.

It was Reyna's fourth-straight appearance for the Black and Yellow after returning from injury in late November, and his first start in more than three months.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Reyna had only played 63 minutes all season after sustaining injuries that kept him out for the majority of September through November.

The U.S. international logged 73 minutes in his first start since Aug. 31, when he played all 90 minutes in a Bundesliga match against Augsburg. Against Barca, he completed 18 of 24 passes, while managing 34 touches on the ball.

  • DID YOU KNOW?

Reyna had just one touch in the opposition box, with the 22-year-old struggling to break into space around the Barcelona net. However, he completed 3 of 4 long balls, finding success from a distance.
