The Serie A title race is turning out to be a close affair this season, perhaps the closest it has been in the last few seasons. Among the contenders for the Scudetto are Antonio Conte's Napoli, who signed Scottish duo Scott McTominay and Billy Gilmour last summer. On Monday, the former took to social media and posted a photo with Gilmour, with the duo celebrating their closely-contested 2-1 win over Fiorentina last weekend.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

McTominay, who joined from Manchester United, has instantly become one of the most impactful midfielders in Serie A and is the team's second-highest goal scorer behind Romelu Lukaku, finding the back of the net seven times in 30 games in all competitions. Gilmour, on the other hand, has been more of a rotational piece for Conte than a starter.

Last weekend, Napoli hosted Fiorentina in a crucial Serie A clash. The Partenopei were on a five-game winless streak, including four draws and a 2-1 loss to Como. Once Serie A leaders, their recent slump allowed Inter to leapfrog them at the top, though Napoli remain just one point behind Simone Inzaghi's side following their win over Fiorentina.

  • WHAT SCOTT MCTOMINAY SAID

Taking to Instagram, McTominay posted a photo of himself and Gilmour with the caption, "A beautiful lunch with Maestro". Gilmour replied with the text "Fratello", which means 'brother' in Italian.

    WHAT NEXT FOR NAPOLI?

Napoli will next play Venezia on Sunday, March 16, in Matchday 29 of the Serie A. It should be a comfortable outing for Conte and Co., given that Venezia are currently 19th on the table.
