Pau Victor could cancel Barcelona contract and make free transfer as La Liga giants unable to register forward and Dani Olmo

Victor could leave Barcelona on a free transfer this month despite being contracted until 2029. The club are struggling to register both the forward and Dani Olmo as they continue to battle the league's rules and their own financial mismanagement. Should the pair not be registered, they may be allowed to leave on loan if they can sign contract extensions independent of those ratified by La Liga. However it has been reported for a while that Olmo would have the right to walk away as a free agent - and now, according to Mundo Deportivo, the same can be said for Victor.

This development is just the latest in a long list of issues Barcelona have faced over the last few years as they attempt to meet La Liga's wage cap restrictions. Both Olmo and Victor were registered in the summer because injured players were allowed to be excluded from the club's salary list, but that is no longer the case. The deadline to register players for the second half of the season has passed but the club are still exploring their options.

Victor has featured regularly for Barcelona this season, making 17 appearances and scoring two goals since completing a permanent move from Girona. He had spent the previous season on loan at Barcelona B. He and Olmo were registered for the first half of the season due to Andreas Christensen being ruled out through injury, but the defender's return casts doubt over the futures of the pair.

There is bound to be interest from around Europe in both Olmo and Victor should they be available on loan or permanently - but Barcelona will not give up without a fight. No definitive announcement about the pair's registration has been made by La Liga and the club are not in league action until Sunday 18 January. Hansi Flick's side sit third in the table, just three points behind leaders Atletico Madrid.
