  • WHAT HAPPENED?

McElhenney was taking time away from north Wales over the international break and was an attendee at the ESPN College Gameday. As part of the coverage, the 'Pat McAfee Kicking Contest' allowed a fan called Kyle to take a 35-yard field goal in a chance to win $80,000. Kyle missed his first effort but, with the chance of a bumper $100,000, struck his kick through the posts to impress the Wrexham co-owner.

    WHAT MCELHENNEY SAID

Fancying himself as a football scout, McElhenney joked on X that he was offering Kyle the chance to join the Red Dragons. He said: "My guy Kyle is a [football] player and just drilled a 35 yard field goal on national television like it was nothing. Looking into a work visa."

  • THE BIGGER PICTURE

As impressive as Kyle's kick may have been, he may struggle to dislodge any of the Wrexham squad currently. The Red Dragons are flying in League One and sit second, just two points behind leaders Birmingham. McElhenney's team are aiming for an incredible back-to-back-to-back promotions and will be dreaming of playing in the Championship next year. With new signings in January likely, the Red Dragons will be looking for improvements - from Kyle to even Cristiano Ronaldo - to bolster the squad.

    WHAT NEXT FOR WREXHAM?

The Red Dragons return to action against Rotherham next weekend hoping to keep the pace with Birmingham. The Millers have been struggling for form since their relegation from the Championship last term and McElhenney will be confident Wrexham can take the three points.
