Richards initially faced resistance from local residents after submitting a proposal to expand his five-bedroom property, per The Sun. Neighbours had previously voiced concerns over his desire to convert a home office outbuilding into an annex and carry out other alterations to the mansion. However, the 36-year-old's latest attempts to upgrade his house have gone unopposed, with officials approving his plans.

The latest upgrade seeks to replace a "poorly" constructed conservatory with a modern, flat-roof extension. Further extensions will be made to better accommodate the growing needs of the occupants.
In the application submitted to the local council, Richards’ planning agent emphasised that the proposed extension would not only improve the aesthetics of the mansion but also enhance the surrounding environment. The agent explained: “The extension enhances the visual appearance of the existing building. It also enhances the visual impact of the surrounding environment. The extension also improves the functionality of the existing building, providing additional space that meets the needs of the occupants. This includes adding new living areas and outdoor areas that enhance the usability and convenience of the home. The proposals will also provide a high-quality family home for modern living."
The local council has now approved Richards' plans, despite the general rule that flat-roof extensions may not always be supported, particularly if they compromise the character of the neighbourhood. However, in this case, the council acknowledged that while the extension deviates from the architectural style of the main dwelling, it remains subordinate and does not overpower the appearance of the property.
"In most cases, flat roof extensions will not be supported where they detract from the character and appearance of the surrounding area," it said.
"There have been many alterations and 'domestification' of the host dwelling... [but while it's] of differing architectural style, it is of subservient portions and would not dominate the south elevation. Overall, the development will not detract from the appearance of the host dwelling nor character of the area."

While the council has given initial approval to Richards' plans, a final decision is expected to be made next month. So far, there have been no new objections from neighbours regarding the proposed changes.
