The current England captain has seen his decision to leave Tottenham in a €100 million (£86m/$108m) transfer questioned by a former Three Lions striker. Kane opted to walk away from English football as major silverware has continued to elude him, but Owen believes he would have been better off helping Spurs to end their barren run on the trophy front while chasing down Alan Shearer on the all-time Premier League goal chart.

    WHAT OWEN SAID ABOUT KANE

Owen - speaking to BoyleSports, who offer the latest Champions League betting – has said of seeing the most prolific of frontmen head to Germany: “We'll probably judge Kane's career when he retires. I made some headlines when the reports of Kane joining Bayern came out by saying that it wasn't the right move for him. I still think that. He said he's wanted to win trophies all his life. If he didn't think that would happen at Spurs, he wouldn't have signed so many contracts there and reached an age where he didn't have control of his future. Kane then got to a stage where he had one year left on his contract, and he could have had his pick of virtually anywhere and moved there a year later. At that time, I thought that, with Ange Postecoglou and his attacking football coming in, he'd still have his future in his hands if he stayed for another year, regardless of whether things went well or not. He could've scored plenty of goals in this team!”

  • WILL KANE HAVE ANY REGRETS?

Owen went on to say of Kane getting the collective silverware he craves but missing out on more history-making exploits as an individual: “Bayern Munich are a huge club in Europe, but he could have easily broken the Premier League goal record. In my opinion, Bayern are going to win the Bundesliga every year either way. If Kane retires and can only point to his two or three Bundesliga medals, then I think staying in England would have been better. He has a young family here and he's lived in England his whole life. Everything was so perfect. I, personally, wouldn't have done it. I would have changed things in the past to make sure I'm in a better position! I would have done another year if I were Kane. It's great to see him doing so well. He's similar to Shearer in a lot of ways. Alan probably thought Kane was going to break his record, and he probably let out a sigh of relief when Harry went to Germany.”

    WHAT NEXT FOR KANE?

Kane – who has broken records while hitting 22 goals for Bayern through 19 appearances – sits 47 goals behind Shearer on the Premier League all-time list with 213 efforts to his name. He will be back on English soil on Tuesday when paying a Champions League visit to Manchester United, while Spurs may have a buy-back option should he wish to return to familiar surroundings at any point in the near future.
