    WHAT HAPPENED?

Spurs had been interested in signing Bayern backup goalkeeper Daniel Peretz to fill in for Vicario, who will be sidelined for a number of months. However, per the Independent, any potential move for the Israeli was halted after Neuer suffered an injury to his ribs, with the German giants unwilling to allow their deputy to leave amid uncertainty surrounding their number one. The north Londoners have instead signed Slavia Prague's Kinsky.

  • THE BIGGER PICTURE

Spurs were always likely to dip into the transfer market after Vicario was ruled out for a significant time. Fraser Forster has struggled in place of the Italian, notably with the ball at his feet. Kinsky is a highly-rated 21-year-old and is known for his extravagance with the ball, often coming high and level with his centre-halves - far more suited to Ange Postecoglou's style of football than Forster.

  • DID YOU KNOW?

Vicario revealed that he played 60 minutes with a broken ankle against Manchester City, making five saves in that time. Spurs tore City apart and won the game 4-0, but the Italian's injury has created longer-term pain for Postecoglou.

    WHAT NEXT FOR TOTTENHAM?

Tottenham are probably not finished in the transfer window as injuries and illness sweep through the squad. They are desperately short of fit defenders, with 18-year-old midfielder Archie Gray and 24-year-old right-back Djed Spence filling in at centre-half against Newcastle on the weekend. Spurs play Liverpool in the Carabao Cup semi-final on Wednesday.
