Liverpool star Dominik Szoboszlai in tears after Hungary coach Adam Szalai reportedly collapses and is taken to hospital minutes into Netherlands clash

Hungary star Szoboszlai was seen in tears after their Nations League clash with the Netherlands was halted due to a medical emergency on the Hungarian bench. Videos appeared to show the team's staff reacting quickly to another person on the bench losing consciousness, and they formed a protective ring as treatment was administered. Medical staff rushed to the stricken individual's aid and the game was paused as they were attended to after seven minutes of the game. It has since been reported Hungary coach Adam Szalai is the individual involved.

Neither team have made any comment on the situation, but Szoboszlai's emotional reaction, and the speed and intensity of the rush to aid the individual, points to a distressing situation. Hungarian Football Xtra, on X, claimed that Szalai was the staff member involved, and they quote MLSZ, a Hungarian news outlet, who say he was taken by ambulance to a hospital in Amsterdam. He is said to be stable.

Szalai joined Marco Rossi's coaching staff in October. A former striker, he earned 86 caps for his country.

Hungary will hope to receive a positive update on Szalai's condition swiftly. Football is ultimately secondary when it comes to matters of life and death.
