Liverpool's Alexis Mac Allister could be in hot water with the FA after claiming Tottenham had '12 players' in highly controversial defeat in now-deleted Instagram comment

The World Cup-winning Argentina international was among those left less than impressed by the performance of the match officials in the Premier League fixture at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Liverpool saw Curtis Jones and Diogo Jota sent off in that contest, while Luis Diaz had a perfectly good goal disallowed due to another farcical mistake from the VAR review team.

PGMOL have apologised for a “significant human error”, but Liverpool have since called for “escalation and resolution” when it comes to fixing costly blunders in the officiating department. It is not the first time that the Reds have felt mistreated, with several big decisions going against them in recent times, while Jurgen Klopp was handed a two-match touchline ban last season after accusing referee Paul Tierney of bias in another dramatic meeting with Spurs.

Mac Allister could face similar sanctions after suggesting that Simon Hooper acted against Liverpool in north London. Fellow countryman Cristiano Romero posted on an Instagram after seeing Spurs claim a 2-1 victory: “This team has great spirit, great heart. Always like this, all together.” Mac Allister responded by saying “normal when you have 12 years”, leading Romero to quip back with “cry at home”. Mac Allister has since deleted his comment.

The FA may decide to charge Mac Allister for questioning the integrity of a Premier League referee – despite the comment in question having since been deleted. Liverpool are also open to being fined by the Football Association after picking up more than five yellow cards in an action-packed meeting with Tottenham.
