The pair were both named to Sarina Wiegman's last squad in the summer but had to withdraw before the crucial 2025 European Championship qualifiers with Ireland and Sweden, as both sustained foot injuries. The Lionesses boss can call upon them for October's friendlies with Germany and South Africa, though.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Maya Le Tissier and Jessica Naz were brought in to replace James and Wubben-Moy in the summer and both keep their places this time around, while uncapped goalkeeper Anna Moorhouse is in for Khiara Keating, who has found game time hard to come by at Manchester City so far this season. Meanwhile, Niamh Charles drops out due to injury and Millie Turner is not selected, paving the way for a recall for Aston Villa's Lucy Parker.

  • WHAT WIEGMAN SAID

“Qualifying directly for the [Euros] provides us with a very valuable opportunity to play four friendlies this autumn and lay the foundations for next summer," Wiegman said. "We’ve been able to carefully select our opponents and we’ve got two exciting and different challenges this window.

“To play Germany at Wembley Stadium is very special and it’s so important that we get experience of executing our style of play against top opponents. Then South Africa in Coventry, a city and a stadium we know well, will test us in different ways. They showed in the World Cup in 2023 how quickly they are progressing and the high level they are at now. We’ll need to be at our very best on both evenings."

  • DID YOU KNOW?

After these two games, England have another two exciting fixtures to close the year out. Switzerland will visit in early December but the blockbuster game comes just a few days before that, when former Chelsea boss Emma Hayes brings her United States women's national team to Wembley.
