Jurgen Klopp agrees shock return to management in Serie A as ex-Liverpool boss prepares to quit head of global soccer role with Red Bull & follow in Jose Mourinho’s footsteps

The 57-year-old German walked away from the dugout in 2024 when bidding an emotional farewell to Premier League giants Liverpool. At the start of 2025, Klopp took over as Head of Global Soccer for the Red Bull Group - overseeing strategic plans for their collection of football clubs, which includes RB Leipzig, the New York Red Bulls, Leeds United and Paris FC.

It is, however, being claimed that Klopp misses “the world of football and the pitch” - with a man that has Bundesliga, Premier League and Champions League titles on his impressive CV reportedly pining for a return to everyday coaching.

According to La Stampa, that could happen at Roma. The Serie A outfit have parted company with ex-Chelsea and Leicester boss Claudio Ranieri as he heads into retirement. Klopp was identified as a top target by the Friedkin ownership group in Rome “some time ago”.

It is claimed that a “full agreement” has been reached with Klopp, as he prepares to leave the Red Bull Group and head to Italy. He had been in discussions with another club - one preparing for a big-money takeover - but is ready to take charge at Stadio Olimpico.

Roma remain confident that a deal for Klopp “is not impossible” as they prepare to hand him reins that former Manchester United and Real Madrid coach Mourinho held onto for two-and-a-half years between July 2021 and January 2024 - delivering Europa Conference League glory in 2022.
