  • Late Stoger penalty sealed win, Kane grabbed consolation
  • Game paused twice for fan protests

Jamal Musiala opened the scoring for the Bavarians, lashing home from a tight angle inside 15 minutes. Kane should have made it two shortly after, but skied his effort after running through on goal. After a delay due to fan protests, Bochum came alive. They found the net twice in six minutes, with Keven Schlotterbeck's guided header giving the home side a 2-1 lead. Kevin Stoger sealed it with 15 minutes remaining, converting from the spot to conclude another miserable evening for Bayern. A late Kane consolation goal could do nothing to change the result and did little to mask another poor performance from the England international.

The contest was delayed for over 10 minutes in the first half. Bochum fans threw tennis balls onto the field as part of a continuing protest against foreign investment in German football. The players were briefly sent down the tunnel, but reappeared soon after. The same happened after the break, with rowdy fans once again seeing the game suspended.

    THE MVP

This was always going to require a tidy defensive showing from Bochum. And they did just that. Schlotterbeck was crucial to it all, with the centre-back turning in an imperious performance at the back. He kept Kane quiet for the most part at one end, and grabbed the go-ahead goal at the other. A famous outing to cap off a famous win. Chances are, Bayer Leverkusen won't mind the result, either...

    THE BIG LOSER

It's been a rough few weeks for Kane. The England captain failed to find the net against both Bayer Leverkusen and Lazio, and didn't put a shot on target in either contest. He experienced much of the same struggles in Sunday's 3-2 defeat, blasting a good chance well over the bar. He may have provided a late consolation, but his body of work over the 100+ minutes simply wasn't good enough. That silverware-driven transfer doesn't look so prudent, at the moment...

  • WHAT COMES NEXT?

The Bavarians continue Bundesliga play with a tricky contest against RB Leipzig next Saturday. Eyes will inevitably be on the second leg of their Champions League last-16 tie on March 5, where Kane and co will hope to overturn a 1-0 deficit to Lazio. Whether Thomas Tuchel is still in a job by then remains to be seen.
