At just the age of 26, Mahlambi's name features on the list of talented South African footballers who have failed to reach their full potential.Mahlambi broke into the scene with Bidvest Wits in the 2015/16 season and was tipped to be a future star for Bafana Bafana.Fast forward a couple of years later, Mahlambi is now an anecdote to be told to young kids on what they should not do if they want to become professional footballers.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Mahlambi's troubles off the pitch are well documented as he has irked people like Benni McCarthy while the Manchester United mentor was at AmaZulu.After his stint with Egyptian giants Al Ahly, he was lured back to the PSL by Mamelodi Sundowns, but that did not work out well either.His biggest contribution at Downs was when his goal won them the title in the 2018/19 season when he came off the bench to score in a 1-0 win over Free State Stars.Sundowns were competing with Orlando Pirates for the league crown, and had Mahlambi not scored, Pirates would have claimed the title on goal difference. The Buccaneers finished that season with 57 points while Sundowns reached 59.Mahlambi recently had a chance to train under Gavin Hunt at SuperSport United but disappeared shortly after. It has now emerged that the former Al Ahly player is working on getting back into shape.
