  • Has been linked with the Bianconeri before
  • Never received an official approach
  • Tied to a deal in England for now
  • WHAT HAPPENED?

The current Manchester City boss was heavily linked with the Bianconeri back in 2019 when Massimiliano Allegri brought his first spell in charge of the club to a close. No approach was made to Guardiola, though, and Maurizio Sarri eventually took the reins in Turin.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Guardiola has since committed to a contract at City through to 2025 – while leading them to a Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League treble last season – with there no plans on his part to take on another new challenge any time soon.

  • WHAT THEY SAID

The 52-year-old has, however, hinted that a move to Italy could form part of his future, telling those at the ‘Dialogues on talent with Pep Guardiola’ event organised by the CRC Foundation in collaboration with the Vialli and Mauro Foundation for Research, and Sport Onlus and the Guardiola Sala Foundation: “Juventus? They never contacted me. The food is very good in Italy. Would I coach them? I really like Italy, I often come on holiday.”

    WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?

Guardiola has enjoyed success as a coach with City, Barcelona and Bayern Munich, with one of the finest tactical brains in the business adding on his philosophy when it comes to winning and losing: “People say that you learn more from defeat, but with victory you live better. Apart from everything else, balance is important. You have to remain calm when you win and don't think it's all a disaster when you lose. Obsession is linked to passion, if you have an obsession it means that you like something. Special talent is important, but it also requires many hours of work. Sacrifice is needed.”
