Family of former Barcelona club president killed in New York helicopter crash as tributes flood in

On Thursday afternoon in New York, reports suggested that a helicopter had crashed in the Hudson River just minutes after taking off, as the copter took its occupants around New York’s landmarks. The pilot of the crash and two children escaped the crash but were later pronounced dead at the hospital.

Marca has now reported that the tourists who perished in the crash were identified as Agustin Escobar and Merce Camprubi and their three children. Camprubi was the granddaughter of former Barcelona president Montal, who presided as the Catalan side's chief from 1969 and 1977. She is also the sister of Joan Camprubi, who is leading ‘Som un Clam’, a platform against the current Blaugrana president, Joan Laporta.

American outlet CNN has reported that the reason for the crash is still unconfirmed, and authorities are still poring over the wreckage to confirm the reason for the crash. However, it is to be noted that this is the third crash for the company, Liberty Helicopters, which owned the helicopter that crashed in the Hudson.

United States President Donald Trump posted heartfelt well-wishes for the family and friends of the victims ad wrote on Truth Social: "Terrible helicopter crash in the Hudson River. Looks like six people, the pilot, two adults, and three children, are no longer with us. The footage of the accident is horrendous. God bless the families and friends of the victims. Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy and his talented staff are on it. Announcements as to exactly what took place, and how, will be made shortly!"

Spain's President Pedro Sanchez said on X: "The news reaching us today of the helicopter crash in the Hudson River is devastating. Five Spaniards from the same family, three of them children, and the pilot have lost their lives. An unimaginable tragedy. I share in the grief of the victims' loved ones at this heartbreaking time."
