The Brazilians have carved themselves a reputation as big spenders, managing to sign any player they set as a transfer target.That has seen them dominating domestic football and are on course to claim a record-extending seventh successive <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-za/premier-soccer-league/yv73ms6v1995b5wny16jcfi3" target="_blank">Premier Soccer League</a> title.De Sa has, however, questioned Masandawana's cash-splurging and believes it is something that will come to an end.

“I watch our league, it’s Mamelodi Sundowns and the rest, they’ve built a very great team because of their money," said De Sa as per <a href="https://farpost.co.za/2024/03/14/its-taking-the-interest-away-roger-de-sa-on-sundowns-dominance/" target="_blank">FARPost</a>.“The Sundowns dominance is taking a little bit of the interest away, they have three international goalkeepers and another two on loan. "You look at their bench, all those players can play regular football at any team in the DStv Premiership."“I say this with all due respect to Sundowns and Mr Patrice Motsepe: The money is good for the team, helping them sign every player they need, but how long is it going to last?," De Sa added.“Remember when Bidvest Wits had money? They bought everyone and won the league. We all know what happened to them when the money was no longer there.”

WHAT DE SA SAID

Sundowns might defend themselves against De Sa's remarks by saying they do not only sign players with domestic football in mind.They have also placed emphasis on continental duties and have struggled to win the Caf Champions League title despite heavy investments, although they did manage to lift the inaugural African Football League trophy this season.The Brazilians might also argue that they are viewed as extravagant spenders due to the fact that other traditional giants Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates have seemingly tightened their belts in the transfer market and have paid for that by ending up with squads comprised of average players.

THE BIGGER PICTURE

Despite all that money, Sundowns have already missed out on the MTN8 and Carling Knockout this season.But they could still lift the Nedbank Cup and they take on Maritzburg United in a Last-16 match on Sunday.
