  • THE BIGGER PICTURE

Chelsea stars Nicolas Jackson and Noni Madueke played a leading role in the kit’s unveiling, posing in the newly released shirt. Women’s team standout Keisha Buchanan also featured prominently in the campaign.

  • TELL ME MORE

The shirt does more than look back, it tells a story. The vertical red and green stripes evoke memories of a shirt first introduced by then-manager Dave Sexton in the early 1970s. Sexton, who guided Chelsea through one of their most successful periods, securing the club’s first FA Cup and European title, was known for his meticulous approach both on and off the pitch.

  • WHAT CHELSEA SAID

A statement from the club read: "In the early 1970s and fresh from securing our first FA Cup and European trophy, Blues manager Dave Sexton, himself an artist when it came to the tactical game, introduced a Chelsea away strip coloured as a tribute to Hungary’s famous ‘Magnificent Magyars’ side from two decades earlier, whose extravagant patterns on the pitch had so influenced his own winning football."

  • DID YOU KNOW?

The club has also confirmed retail details for supporters eager to wear the new strip. The match-worn version, identical to what the players will wear on the pitch, is priced at £125. A more affordable stadium edition is available for £85, with junior sizes retailing at £65.
