Aitana Bonmati to snub interest from Chelsea and sign new Barcelona contract to become world’s highest-paid female player

According to BBC Sport, the 26-year-old is close to agreeing a new contract that will extend her stay beyond 2025. Chelsea have been credited with interest in the Spain international but after several months of negotiations, Bonmati is edging closer to signing a new, lucrative deal.

The Barca academy product has gone onto become one of the best female players in the world and now it seems she is edging closer to a contract that reflects her value. She helped the Catalan outfit win an historic continental quadruple last season, with the midfielder named the Most Valuable Player of both the Champions League final and the tournament. Keeping her would be a statement from intent from Barca.

Bonmati won the 2023 Ballon d'Or Feminin off the back of winning a treble with Barcelona and lifting the 2023 Women's World Cup, too. She is also among the favourites to win the same accolade late next month in Paris.

Bonmati's Barcelona side return to Liga F action on Sunday when they begin their 2024/25 season away at Deportivo de la Coruna, before hosting Real Sociedad on Friday, September 13.
