USMNT star Sergino Dest believes he 'took one step back, to take two steps forward' after leaving Barcelona and Milan for PSV

Speaking to Gianluca Di Marzio, the American defender was asked about his time at the two European clubs and if he holds any malice towards them for his treatment. He revealed that he's only focused on the campaign with PSV, sharing he's not interested in keeping up with any matches of his former clubs at the moment.

"It's a wonderful feeling to be back on the pitch and have more space. Obviously I went through difficult moments at Milan, but I'm happy to be at a great club like PSV and to be able to play. The Eredivisie may not be Serie A or La Liga which are two great championships, but I took one step back to take two steps forward," he said.

When asked if he holds a grievance against Milan boss Stefano Pioli for his treatment there, the USMNT defender replied: "I'm not angry, I have nothing against Mister Pioli. These things happen. But when I played, I don't think it did any harm! Then of course I too have some faults, which I take on, as does he. But they are things that remain inside.

"I currently don't follow the Rossoneri's matches. Milan is the past, I'm only focused on PSV."

Dest is thriving with the Dutch side in 2023/24, helping them to the knockouts of the Champions League while also helping the team secure a 10-point lead over second place Feyenoord in the league table. They're undefeated in Eredivisie play this season, and the American full-back has played a key role in that, starting all 10 matches he's played in while contributing one assist. He also started five out of six group stage games in Europe.

After securing a spot in the 2024 knockout round of the Champions League, their focus will be on Dutch soccer for the foreseeable future until European competition returns. PSV have a match on the horizon, taking on AZ Alkmaar on Sunday.
