  • WHAT HAPPENED?

The Red Dragons have enjoyed a meteoric rise since welcoming Hollywood co-owners to North Wales in 2021. The National League title was claimed in record-breaking style, before bouncing straight through the fourth tier of English football.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Phil Parkinson’s side continue to ride high in League One, but are four points adrift of the top two. Much of their success this term is down to an incredible home record that has seen just nine points dropped across 16 outings at SToK Racecourse.

  • DID YOU KNOW?

That is the best home record in the division, but issues have been endured on the road. Wrexham sit 13th in the away form standings, claiming only four wins from 13 games, and have suffered defeats at Barnsley and Shrewsbury since the turn of the year.

    WHAT EFL PUNDIT SAID

EFL pundit Don Goodman has told OLBG of why travel sickness could undo much of the Red Dragons’ fine work: “Wrexham are definitely in the race for promotion. Wycombe have to play eight games against teams from the top nine, which won't be easy. To add a bit more context, they haven't lost a single game against anybody from the bottom half this season but have only managed to beat five teams from the top half.

“It's all to play for. But Wrexham's Achilles heel is their away form against top-half teams, having not won any of their seven matches on the road against those sides.”

  • TELL ME MORE

Goodman went on to say of Wrexham boasting the firepower that could help to drag them over the line: “Wrexham were quite reserved in their summer spending but you'd imagine Jay Rodriguez will be licking his lips at the prospect of playing in League One.

“He's never played in League One before but if they manage him properly to the point he remains fresh, he will be a difference-maker and find it easy to play at this level. You're looking for difference-makers and that's what Wrexham have in abundance.”

    WHAT NEXT FOR WREXHAM?

Wrexham are hoping that a spark can be found from somewhere, with a game in hand currently held over Stockport – who sit directly below them. There is, however, much work to be done if the Red Dragons are to become the first EFL side to secure three successive promotions and deliver more drama for their award-winning documentary series.
