Man Utd player ratings vs Real Betis: Marcus Rashford sets the tone with his finishing - just as he's done all season

Erik ten Hag's side responded to the humiliating 7-0 defeat against Liverpool on Sunday in an encouraging way by thrashing the Spanish side at Old Trafford.

Rashford got United off to an ideal start with a thumping finish early in the game, setting the tone for what was to come from a reinvigorated attack.

Betis levelled against the run of play with a controversial goal from former Leicester forward Ayoze Perez after team-mate Juanmi appeared to control the ball with his arm in the build-up.

Antony restored United's lead with a trademark strike into the far top corner after cutting in from the right before Bruno Fernandes headed in the third.

Wout Weghorst then scored a much-needed goal on a personal level to put the Red Devils in a really strong position heading into next week's second leg in Seville.

GOAL rates Manchester United's players from a much happier evening at Old Trafford.

    Goalkeeper & Defence

    David de Gea (5/10):

Very shaky with his kicking, almost costing United a goal right before half-time when Juanmi's shot deflected off the post.

    Diogo Dalot (5/10):

Some nice link play down the right but was vulnerable again in defence and hauled off at half-time.

    Raphael Varane (6/10):

Kept Betis' dangerman Borja Iglesias quiet.

    Lisandro Martinez (7/10):

Made his share of key blocks and was as cool as ever in possession.

    Luke Shaw (7/10):

Very lively going forward, linking well with Rashford and Weghorst. Set up Bruno's headed goal from the corner.

    Midfield

    Bruno Fernandes (8/10):

Looked determined to make amends for his Anfield horror show and repeatedly tracked back while being highly effective in attack.

    Casemiro (7/10):

Made sure United won the midfield battle and was pretty creative too.

    Fred (5/10):

Didn't have a great game, sloppy in possession and often late to the ball.

    Attack

    Antony (8/10):

Gave Betis a real fright down both wings and looked like he had a point to prove. His typically emphatic finish handed United the momentum again.

    Wout Weghorst (5/10):

His finishing in the first half was dreadful although he did at least work hard. Got his reward by netting a tap-in and was overcome with emotion in his celebration.

    Marcus Rashford (9/10):

Set the tone with a superb early strike which settled the team down. Was then at the heart of so many of United's attacking moves.

    Subs & Manager

    Aaron Wan-Bissaka (7/10):

Ensured Betis couldn't get back into the game in the second half.

    Jadon Sancho (5/10):

Lacked sharpness when he came on and couldn't make a real impact on what was a huge opportunity to prove himself.

    Tyrell Malacia (6/10):

Contributed to a very solid defensive performance from the team in the second half.

    Scott McTominay (N/A):

Came on for the final eight minutes.

    Facundo Pellestri (N/A):

Only came on for the last eight minutes but was really lively and unlucky not to add to the scoring.

    Erik ten Hag: (7/0)

Made a big call by fielding the exact same line-up as at Anfield but was in fact giving the players the chance to redeem themselves. They did that.
