  • WHAT HAPPENED IN THE MATCH?

Bayern could have extended their lead at the top of the Bundesliga table to eight points after Bayer Leverkusen's 0-0 draw with Union Berlin, but the Bavarian giants were held to a 2-2 draw in Der Klassiker on Saturday night by struggling rivals Dortmund. England captain Kane had a handful of opportunities to win the game for Bayern but couldn't put them away and was criticised by the German media, being handed a raft of low scores in a variety of player rating articles.

HOW DID THE GERMAN MEDIA RATE KANE'S PERFORMANCE?

BILD handed out a poor rating of 4/10 for Kane, writing: "He had a few chances to score, for example, in stoppage time in the first half. However, he was generally less involved in Munich's attacking play than usual and was ineffective in front of goal."

Kane was handed the same score by three other outlets, starting with Focus, who criticised the former Tottenham striker for being "pretty much out of the game" throughout the contest. Merkur highlighted some of his few highlights during the game in spite of his low score, while SPORT1 simply admitted it "wasn't the Englishman's night".

  • WHAT ARE THE FANS SAYING ON SOCIAL?

Kane wasn't free from criticism from fans on social media, either, with a number of punters highlighting the 31-year-old frontman's penchant for going missing in big games.

@pythaginboots said on X: "Watching Bayern Munich V Dortmund this afternoon and it was painful watching Kane turn invisible as his teammates tried to rally in what was becoming a difficult game. [Thomas] Muller might be finished but psychologically he was still present - same can’t be said for Harry."

@tinooo_pr wrote: "There are people who think Harry Kane is the best player in the world. How finished would this sport be."

@unzolly stated: "Harry Kane missed 2 Big Chances tonight, in a derby game Bayern drew. The ENTIRETY of the blame should go to him. 100 million transfer fee, and 23M a year, to miss two big chances in a game where Bayern could have gone 8 points clear."

@Seth_Erdene added: "Harry Kane bottling in important games is not being talked about more. Insane bottler."

WHAT NEXT FOR KANE AND BAYERN?

Kane has had two off nights in front of goal in the last week, having faltered during Bayern's 2-1 defeat to Inter in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final. His next task is to break down the Serie A giants' resilient defence in the return fixture to help his side reach the semi-finals, though they remain strong favourites to regain the Bundesliga title, having established a six-point lead at the top of the table with only five games remaining.
